The first 1000 people to download the app will watch the matches free for a whole month.

Ugandans with smart phones will be able to watch FIFA World 2018 on their handsets. This is possible after downloading an application (App) for Africell subscribers.

The telecom company, Africell has partnered with the official World Cup broadcasters, Star Times to enable Ugandans watch the tournament anywhere at ease.

Africell’s World Cup data is accessible through USSD code *133# Option 10.
The mobile App is available on both Play Store for android and App Store for IPhone users.

The process of live streaming is as follows.

Step 1: Download the Star Times mobile App from Play Store or App Store accordingly.
Step 2: Identify which channel of preference you want to tune in to.
Step 3: Dial *133#Option 10 and select your bundle.
Step 4: Enjoy the live stream.

Announcing the innovation on Thursday in Kampala, Africell Public Relations manager, Edgar Karamagi and Adrine Nsubuga, the vice president of marketing at Star Times said the first 1000 people to download the app will watch the matches free for a whole month.

Karamagi said they have introduced discounted data packages dedicated to the App users with validity of up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week. “This is an App which we thought was timely,” Karamagi said.

“We want to ensure that Ugandans this time round don’t miss and be able to tell a World Cup story. The World Cup comes after every four years, there is no need to miss,” Nsubuga said.

The 21st edition of the football World Cup Kiccked off Thursday.
