Arua Municipality MP Kassiano Wadri, who was elected a fortnight ago, in the acrimonious Arua Municipality by-election, has been sworn in.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr Jacob Oulanyah presided over the ceremony.

Mr Wadri, who contested as an Independent, beat 11 rivals to the seat.

On the last day of the campaign rallies, violence erupted leaving six residents shot while Yasin Kawuma, the driver of Kyaddondo East MP, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was shot dead at a hotel compound in the town.

The seat fell vacant after the killing of Ibrahim Abiriga in June.

Mr Wadri never voted for himself after being arrested in a swoop that was carried out by security personnel from the Special Forces Command and police.

He was on Monday released on bail, together with 32 Opposition politicians and activists after spending two weeks in jail on treason charges.
