High Court in Mukono District has convicted Tom Mulinde, a 40-year-old man for defiling his daughter for two years from the time she was two years old.

Mulinde, a resident of Katungulu village resident in Buikwe district was arrested in 2014, after his then daughter went to Police accusing him of continuously defiling her. The girl is now six years old.

He was remanded to Luzira Prison as his trial proceeded.

On July 20, which was the last day of his trial, Mukono resident judge Margaret Mutonyi convicted Mulinde based on the evidence the prosecution had used before court including his daughter’s testimony.
“The sexual abuse did not happen once or in darkness. He did it several times and different places,” Justice Mutonyi said.

Mulinde pleaded to court for a lighter sentence saying he had learnt a lesson which would change his lifestyle and also asked court to consider the four years he had been on remand.
“I have been found guilty but I am requesting to give me a light sentence since I have already spent four years on remand. I need to look after my family,” Mulinde pleaded.

However, state prosecutor Ann Kabajungu asked court to severely punish Mulinde so that other men like him who are supposed to protect children but instead abuse them learn a bitter lesson from him.

Justice Mutonyi set August 3, 2018 as the day she will her sentence Mulinde.

Aggravated defilement attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
