Uganda survive second half scare

By Swaib Raul Kanyike

KAMPALA. Uganda Rugby Cranes made it two wins from as many match days of Africa Gold Cup action after beating Morocco 47-29 at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds on Saturday. Uganda uncharacteristically got off to a burning start and forced the visitors into an early penalty, which fullback Philip Wokorach kicked through.

Inside Center Pius Ogena opened the try account, before more from Michael Wokorach and Ivan Magomu. Two more penalties and two conversions gave Uganda a 30-07 halftime lead.

Uganda started the second half on the back foot. The visitors’ mauls and quick flow of the ball seemed to have left Uganda confused. The men in red cut the deficit to 33-29, until when Uganda found life again through Philip Wokorach’s boot plus two more tries from man-of-the-match Ogena and Solomon Okia.

Uganda hosts Zimbabwe next weekend in their final game of the campaign.
