KAMPALA – For his contributions to promoting peace and stability in Uganda, DR Congo, South Sudan and Somalia, anddemonstrating tolerance to even those who abuse him, President Yoweri Museveni will be receiving a global peace leadership award at the fast aproaching Global Peace Conference.

The peace award was initiated to recognise leaders who have championed liberation, democracy, tolerance, peaceful co-existence and the rule of law on the continent.

The Global Peace Conference will be held between August 1 and 3 at Speke resort Munyonyo under the theme;Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development.

The summit will attract over 1,000 multi-sector leaders from African parliaments, business, faith, women, youth and journalists.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday at the media centre, public service minister, Muruli Mukasa said that the three-day strategic high level summit will help to increase social cohesion, unity and economic development in the Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa.

“This conference is going to help African leaders to brainstorm and find new solutions of solving conflicts, violence, corruption among others by increasing social cohesion, unity in diversity, peace and economic development and collaborations among all sectors for a common vision of collective peace and development,” said Mukasa.

The Global Peace Foundation is an international nonprofit organisation with a stated mission to promote “an innovative, values-based approach to peace building; guided by the vision of One Family under God.”

The peace ambassador, Milton Kambura, said the conference will present new models of promoting peace in different countries.

He said that President Museveni was the first on their list because he has made Uganda a beautiful country that most tourists want to visit more often.

“Museveni is a blessing to Africa and we call upon all young people to emulate his leadership.

“These days some people cannot even look after a family of three people but Museveni has made Uganda what it is today.

“AIDS/HIV is no longer number one among the problems affecting Uganda, he sent Ugandan soldiers to Somalia so that peace can be maintained there and he has a spirit of a Pan-Africanist. Our president is a true father of the continent,” said Kambura.

Kambura called upon all Ugandans to visit the Global Peace foundation website to register so that they can be in position to attend the conference.

Former and current heads of state from Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia,South Sudan and Dr Congo, Tanzania, Burundi and Ethiopia will attend.
