Kampala. Paidha Black Angels and Nyamityobora were both defeated for the 16th time this season as they edged closer to relegation with six games of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League left.
Bottom side Paidha however paid the heaviest price going down 4-2 to Police at the StarTimes Stadium in Lugogo.
They also had one of their fans arrested with referee Mashood Ssali stopping play briefly in the second half after objects were thrown at one of his assistants.
Further attempts to force Police to free the said culprit then ended up with them being teargased and Police firing bullets after they turned rowdy.
League leading marksman Juma Balinya meanwhile led the on-pitch destruction with a hattrick to take his tally to 16 goals as Police overcame a 2-1 deficit to win their ninth game of the season.
Two of those goals came from penalties, the first after Simon Mbaziira was brought down while the second came after Ronald Nyanzi’s effort was charged down with the help of a hand by a Paidha defender.
He then saved the best for last with a typical Police strike exchanging passes with substitute Johnson Odong.
The latter then dummied Ruben Kimera’s cross for Balinya to stab home for a 3-2 lead at the 90th minute mark.
In between Jackson Nsubuga and Yusuf Ssozi had given Paidha a 2-1 lead with well taken strikes on a day in which they impressed going forward.
But Police captain Paul Willa put the result beyond them in added time with a stunning strike into the bottom corner of the net after a run from the right as his side moved to ninth on the 16-team log. Second from bottom Nyamityobora meanwhile fell to a brace from Nelson Senkatuka whose Bright Stars side won 2-1.
Ndejje University were the only team among the bottom three to emerge from start of match-day 24 with any sort of credit after grinding out a goalless draw at third placed Mbarara City.
The results left Paidha bottom with 12 points, four behind Nyamityobora while Ndejje’s point in Mbarara moved them to within three of SC Villa. The latter however have a game in hand with seven left to play.
At the top Mbarara are third with 45 points, four behind second placed Vipers.
