KAMPALA – Three boxing officials who were banned last month for a period of 12years have issued an indefinite suspension to the three top Uganda boxing federation (UBF )executive officials.

On Wednesday Kenneth Gimugu,Paul Ayiasi and Fred Kavuma also suspended president Moses Muhangi, Secretary Simon Barigo and treasurer Richard Muhumuza to pave way for investigations on embezzlement of the federation funds.

Less than two months ago, Muhangi and his executive had banned Kavuma, Ayiasi and Gimugu from any boxing activities for 12 years.

“We are the registered trustees of UBF with our mandate given to us by the trustees Incorporation Act 165 which gives us five years in office effective September 2015 when the certificate was issued,” Gimugu said.

“It is upon this mandate that we suspend the three executive members; Moses Muhangi the president, Simon Barigo the secretary and Richard Muhumuza the Treasurer indefinitely to pave way for investigation for embezzlement of public funds,” Gimugu stated.

He explained that the suspension of the three executive members arise from a boxing stake holder who complained of how the government money was spent.

He added that in March 2018, Government released 340m to UBF, but only sh281 was deposited on the Federation account in dfcu but still that deposited money was withdrawn from the account when the team was in commonwealth.

Gimugu also faulted dfcu bank for allowing the change of signatories without getting a letter from the trustees.

“We are going to cause an AGM soon to appoint the interim committee that will run the sport as the three are being investigated,” Gimugu said.

However, when contacted UBF Secretary Simon Barigo he insisted that the trio is no longer part of UBF and has no powers to suspend the executive.

“What they are doing is malicious and we are going to treat it with the highest contempt it deserves because it is only the general assembly that has powers to suspend us,” Barigo said.
