RUKUNGIRI – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has vowed to weaken Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) in Rukungiri and woo back those who went astray.

“It is NRM that has fought Amin, Obote, Kony and ADF in Uganda and DR Congo, we have footsteps, you can see where we have passed, what are the footsteps of FDC you are following?” the President asked.

Museveni, during his visit to Rukungiri district at Kasoroza playground in Nyakagyeme sub-county on Friday arrived at 3:55pm and called off protocol, saying it was his day and, therefore, there was no need for other speeches.

According to the programme, the resident district commissioner, Martin Mugabe, Muhwezi and district chairperson Andrewson Katebire, were supposed to present the district memorandum to the President

Museveni said during guerrilla war, they never used bishops or other church leaders to penetrate Luwero and capture power.

“Muhwezi here knows that we used small people to penetrate larger group until we reached where we were going, this is what I am using again to reach FDC power 10 who went astray,” he said.

Museveni introduced a house maid identified as Scovia Atuheire of Kyamurari Nyakagyme Rukungiri, whom he introduced as his contact person to reach those who defected NRM.

“My coming here started with my house maid, this small girl, I asked her contacts of the people she studied with at Kyamurari and others in her area, I kept calling them and they told me the problem which I have come here to solve,” he said.

Museveni added that the biggest problem in the area was poverty, citing few people such as Muhwezi, Kham Karekaho, the family of late Kitaburaza, Canon Ben Rullonga as very rich, with the other bigger group being of the poor, who cannot afford a meal every day.

“I started this fight in 1967 after my A’level with people of Nyabushozi, who were pastoralists,” Museveni said.

He advised people against spliting land, which he said would not work for them.

“If you have six children and you divide three acres of land among them, each of them will get half an acre, which cannott help them,” he said

The President said he was not working for anybody, but for heaven so that when he reaches heaven, God does not ask him why he left the people of Rukungiri in absolute poverty.

“I am working for heaven that is why I am using this young girl, not the district bosses or MPs,” he said.

Museveni donated sh30m to three groups in Nyakagyeme sub-county; one of bodaboda group, Nyakagyeme Development SACCO and Nyakagyeme Banana Traders’ Group, which is headed by his maid Scovia Atuheire.

He also donated a Fuso lorry to the group to help them transport matooke from the village to Kampala.

Museveni also donated sh50m to a group of onion growers in Ntungamo.
