Proceeds from this year’s Centenary Bank Rotary Cancer Run will again go towards the purchase of two Linear Accelerators (modern cancer treatment machines) and the construction of the bunker for the Linear Accelerator at the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital.

The 2018 Cancer run will be held under the theme, ‘Keep Running,’ so as to foster the need to be fit and healthy. The run will take place on August 26 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and in all major towns across the country with participants competing in the 5km, 10km and 21km race.

Tickets will be purchased at Shs.25, 000/- from the following Centenary Branches; Mapeera, Nakivubo, Ntinda, Kireka and Rubaga.

They will also be available at Capital Shoppers branches, Bulange, Mengo, Rotary Uganda Office on 9th Floor, NIC Building and in all participating towns across the country or through logging on to rotarycancerrun.co.ug.

The run was launched last week at Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga’s office. Centenary Bank made a sh155m contribution and it the seventh time that the Bank shall be partnering with Rotary Uganda in the fight against the Cancer scourge.

The estimated cost for both the machines and bunkers is Shs18 billion.

Last year, Past District Governor and Chair of the Uganda Rotary Cancer Programme Stephen Mwanje said sh1.1bn had been raised from last year’s event after the run at Kololo.

Chief runner Centenary Bank Executive Director Dr. Simon Kagugube also thanked the runners for their contribution and hailed them for not waiting for government to avail all the medical equipment in the country still and said there was still a big challenge in getting all the equipment that was needed in the fight against cancer.
