KAMPALA. Skoda Fabia of Manvir Baryan, the reigning African Rally Champion (ARC), Mitsubishi Evo X’s of Jas Mangat and Christakis Fitidis’ machines will respectively be first up on the podium for scrutineering at Shell Bugolobi today. Moses Seguya, the assistant chief scrutineer, who will assist Kenya’s Viren Goricha, the FIA technical delegate, confirmed to Daily Monitor the mode of scrutineering the cars.
“We expect to start the process by 10 am with the first three cars.
“We shall have an interval of 20 minutes for each set of three,” “said Seguya. “We are primarily going to look at safety of the car.”
Seguya appealed to the drivers or their mechanical crews to keep time to avoid necessary delays. Meanwhile, local drivers have been given green light to score maximum points (140 points) for winning this weekend’s Pearl of Africa rally.
Before this event, local and foreign drivers were required to get the new FIA homologated fuel tanks.
“Since we are midway the season, we decided to allow local drivers with homologated cars but don’t have the required fuel tanks as per FIA rules to score maximum points in this event.”
The two-day event has a total distance of 482.86km, of which 210.98km is competitive and will take place in the districts of Luwero and Kayunga.
The event opens with a Super Special Stage in Busiika. Vivo Energy are the main sponsor of the event with a package of Shs110m.
