Live from Mbale: Age limit judgement
Security tight in Mbale ahead of Constitutional Court judgement
Tension is high in Mbale town as residents wait to hear the verdict of court on the petition challenging the removal of age limit from the Constitution.
Security personnel in army and Police uniform have been seen patrolling court premises and the town with the help of sniffer dogs.
All litigants such as Male Mabiriizi, representatives of the Attorney General and Socilitor General, members of the Uganda Law Society and opposition MPs have already arrived at court.
Five Constitutional Court justices led by the Deputy Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny Dollo, will today deliver the much awaited ruling.
Petitioners say the new law that extended the term of MPs from 5-7 years and lifted the age beyond which a person should not seek or contest for President contravenes several sections of the Constitution and as such, it should be nullified.
But how did the debate on the age limit start?
