KAMPALA. Kampala University (KU) will become the most successful side in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) with victory over Kyambogo at the Mandela National Stadium.
The Ggaba-based institution are level on two titles each with Makerere University Business School (Mubs) having won the title in 2013 and 2016.
But while they have the advantage in terms of pedigree, their opponents come into the final in slightly better form.
Kyambogo are unbeaten this season and reached this stage with a 3-0 aggregate win over Bugema in the semifinals as well as eliminating champions Uganda Martyrs in the last eight.
Both coaches are anticipating a good game owing to a similar approach from both teams that emphasizes a short passing style.
“There are two good teams that should give the fans a good final. As Kyambogo we are training with one thing on our mind which is to win the title,” Kyambogo coach Deo Sserwadda, stressed.
This will be his second final with the university as they seek to finish on the winning side after losing the 2014 final to Mubs.
“Both teams are good technically and tactically,” added KU’s Vincent Tumusiime whose team mounted a stunning comeback to beat St. Lawrence University in the semifinal.
Having lost the first leg 2-1 at home, their task was made even harder after going a goal down 11 minutes into the second leg as Simon Oryem Tabu scored for St. Lawrence.
However, captain John Bosco Aleper, scored twice in the 12th and 40th minute for the game to end 1-2 and 3-3 on aggregate forcing the tie into penalties.
