Ivan Markmot is set to become a regular sight on the Dusupay Warriors technical bench after being name head coach for the coming season.
Markmot knows local rugby like the back of his hand. He has had stints as a player at Kobs, Rhinos, Pirates and Warriors. The retired Rugby Cranes international has also coached at Kyambogo College, Kololo S.S where he won the schools league in 2014. The outspoken bloke enjoyed success as Kyambogo University coach where he won three varsity game titles on top of winning two silvers and a bronze in the East African University games.
That CV fits the bill at a budding side like the Warriors and it makes sense why latter went for Markmot ahead of other candidates. He is well aware of the task ahead and prepared to leave a mark at the club.
“It’s an opportunity I have to take serious and produce results, I cannot take it for granted,” he told SCORE.
Warriors gained promotion to the top division in 2012 and have finished in the bottom half since then. It’s one of the things the new tutor wants to change as early as the approaching season.
“Of course every coach wants their side doing well. I think we can make top five in the league next season, it will be our main goal,” he added.
Markmot had his first training session at his new home on Wednesday and all he saw was a group of players eager to start life under him.
“Every player is positive ahead of the season and they are all in good shape as a unit. I am really looking forward to my first game already.
Warriors` first test under Markmot comes in shape of the Uganda Cup when they visit Stallions on October 13.
