Jail escapee drowns in River Agago, colleague still on the run

An inmate who escaped from Agago government Prison in Patongo Sub-county, Agago District has died after drowning in river Agago, police have said.
Vincent Oyet reportedly escaped from prison warders on June 8, 2018 with four of his colleagues as they were being taken to the prison farm in the morning.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Patrick Okema told journalists on Monday that the body of Oyet, who had been convicted of murder, was found in the river by prison warders who were searching for him after his escape.
After the escape, Mr Okema said prison warders later re-arrested two of the fugitives and they have since been sent back to Agago government prison.

He identified them as Paul Odama, a simple defilement convict and Lumoi Lukutikwe who was convicted of theft.
One still on the run
Police said another inmate identified as Samuel Mwaka who was convicted of burglary and theft is still on the run.
“We appeal to the public to be vigilant and report any information about the fugitive to security personnel,” Mr Okema said.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Mwaka has died after reportedly drinking excessive alcohol.

The deceased, a resident of Lukwo parish in Agoro Sub-county Lamwo District died on Sunday.
Mr Okema said the family members of the deceased confessed to Police in their statements that the deceased had been an alcohol addict adding that on the fateful day, he had taken a lot of alcohol.
He said police handed the body to the relatives for burial.
