Former Attorney General Peter Nyombi is dead.
Nyombi died Sunday at SAS Clinic on Bombo Road, in Kampala where he was taken by family members.
Ms Margaret Senyonyi, a relative of Nyombi said the former minister was attending a family meeting at Buziga, near Kampala, before complaining that he was unwell.
“Family members took him to the clinic between 8 pm and 9pm today [Sunday] where he died. We are taking the body to the Uganda Funeral Services Funeral Home right now,” Ms Senyonyi said Sunday by telephone.
She said Nyombi has been in and out of hospital for some time.
His younger brother, Mr Henry Mayega, said Nyombi developed sudden breathing complications.
“We were together at my home and he started losing breath. We rushed him to SAS Hospital where he died. They are yet to conduct a post-mortem to know the cause of death,” Mr Mayega said by telephone on Sunday night.
Nyombi, 64, replaced Prof. Kiddu Makubuya. He served from May 2011 until March 2015.
He was replaced Mr Fred Ruhindi, in a Cabinet reshuffle. A year later, Mr Ruhindi was also dropped and replaced by Mr William Byaruhanga, the current attorney general.
