After humbling Cape Verde on Saturday, Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre attributed the win to the home-based players.

KCCA striker Patrick Kaddu struck in the 78th minute off an assist from Kaizer Chiefs’ defender Geofrey Walusimbi.

“The home boys played very well and ended up giving us a win and I am so proud of them,” Desabre said.

He also hailed the government for continuously supporting the team and it’s this that motivated the players.

“I am happy that the federation governing football and the president have always supported us and this has continuously motivated the players,” Desabre added.

However, Desabre used the same occassion to note that critics had kept him yearning for good results.

“Critics made me want to prove that I can do something different,” Desabre hinted.

Meanwhile, the Uganda Cranes captain Dennis Onyango told the press after the game that these were his last Nations Cup qualifiers.

“I am happy and humbled that I have been part of the Cranes since 2005 and I want to let you know that I am playing my last Nations Cup qualifiers,” Onyango said.
