St. Lawrence University travel to Busitema University today in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) looking for a win to become the first team to reach the knockout stage this season. The Rubaga-based side are unbeaten this season and top the table with seven points from three games with a win enough to guarantee a top two finish.
Although St. Lawrence will be without key player Joshua Lubwama who has since joined Uganda Premier League side BUL and is therefore ineligible, coach Nnono Ssozi is confident his side can secure a good result.
In the first round, St. Lawrence came from behind to beat Busitema 2-1 at home in Rubaga thanks to a 93rd minute goal from the lanky midfielder Lubwama famed for his dead-ball expertise. “We might be a bit rusty due to the holiday break but I am hopeful we shall pick up from where we left when we play Busitema on Sunday,” Nnono noted.
His team’s position was further aided by Nkumba who now have one point after being deducted three for using an ineligible player.
For Busitema University who are ;evel on three points with Kampala Univeristy, the game is critical to their chances of finishing in the top two and coach Musisi Abdul Nooh is confident of a win at home.
“It was not a convincing loss to St. Lawrence. I think we played very well and very bravely but conceded because of some unfortunate decisions especially their winning goal in the 93rd minute,” said Busitema coach Musisi.
