“Two pupils identified as Ashraf Igembe, 13, and Ronitah  Namakula, 13, were confirmed injured and rushed to Mulago hospital for treatment,” said Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Mr Luke Owoyesigyire.

Mr Owoyesigyire further noted that Igembe’s hand was shattered as a result of the explosion while Namakula sustained a ‘slight’ injury on the eye.

““The cause was as a result of playing with an unidentified item which is yet to be established by police experts from the Bomb squad,” he said before adding that police have so far established that the unidentified object was brought into the school by another pupil aged 12 after he picked it yesterday (Wednesday) on his way home.

“The boy carried it to school today. The experts have picked the fragments for further analysis and investigation, more details will be availed soon,” he explained.
