Ramanthan Walyendo, a member of Bugiri Municipality MP contestant, Asuman Basalirwa’s security detail who succumbed to gunshot wounds he sustained on Thursday during a campaign rally was yesterday (Friday) laid to rest in accordance with his Islamic faith.

He was buried in Bukaye-Bukuda village, Kapyanga Sub-county in Bugiri District.

The Chief mourner Asuman Basalirwa said he has finalized gathering evidence to indict the trigger-happy policeman who fatally shot his supporter-cum bodyguard.

Basalirwa added that he had a zoom camera that showed the police man firing into the crowd.
He also said the deceased was sitting next to him, suggesting the shooter could have targeted him but instead shot his bodyguard.

Mr Basalirwa vowed to look after the deceased’s five orphans.

Hajji Lyavala who stepped down from the race in favour of Basalirwa, said the shooting of Basalirwa’s supporter will not be in vain and vowed to make sure Basalirwa wins the election.
