More than 140 out of 400 suspected criminals arrested in Wednesday’s police operations in Kampala city have been charged.
The suspects were arraigned in Mengo court in Kampala and charged with different offences including theft and robbery before they were remanded to prison.
The suspects had been detained at Old Kampala police division after they were rounded up by police in a bid to clean the city of criminals terrorising residents during traffic jams, on streets, in building corridors and on their way home.
Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said other suspects were yet to be screened but promising that they would also appear in court soon.
The suspects were nabbed from areas of Kisenyi, Nankulabye, Nakivubo, Makerere Kikoni, Makerere Kikumikikumi, Bwaise, Kawempe and Katwe in operations commanded by Division Police Commanders (DPCs) and Officer in Charges (OCs).
Katwe police detained 130, Old Kampala 140, CPS 84, Kawempe 54 while others were detained at Jinja Road, Kira Road and Wandegeya.
